In 1990, Tom Ford took over the faltering Gucci brand as its creative director, and brought it back to a top label status. When Gucci took over Yves Saint Laurent, Ford created the product lines for both fashion houses, which made him a style icon. He left Gucci at the end of 2004 – to the horror of the entire fashion world – and founded his own label Tom Ford in 2005.

"When I left Gucci, I simply couldn't find anything I wanted to wear. What I do is the real thing. This is what I want to wear, what I want to buy.
